Writing A Letter To And From Your Body

Writing a letter to and from your body can be a sacred and beneficial exercise for anyone struggling with poor body image. Below are some journaling prompts to help get you started…

Start by writing a letter to your body.

  • How do you feel in your body? What do you wish you could say to your body?

  • What do you appreciate most about your body? How do you show this appreciation?

  • What do you wish was different about your body?

  • How do you currently treat your body?

  • Do you listen to what your body’s needs/wants are? If not, how come?

  • What does each body part allow you to do?

  • Which body part(s) to you criticize the most? How come?

  • If you were criticized as a child, where in your body do you remember feeling it?

  • Did your body ever show up and support you in a way when you needed it to?

  • Do you ever feel like your body has “failed” you? What happened and how did you respond?

  • What are your fears about praising your body? Where do these fears come from?

  • What makes your body special? Do you ever celebrate this? If not, how come?

  • What would you like to be able to do with your body?

  • How would you like your relationship with your body to change? What are you doing to work towards this goal?

After writing this first letter, what does your body have to say back? Write a letter in response, from your body to you…

Be mindful and gentle with yourself during this exercise.
